DOH Celebrates World Health Day: Securing a Healthy Beginning and Hopeful Futures for Mothers and Babies

On this World Health Day, the Department of Health (DOH) reaffirms its commitment to securing a healthy beginning and bright future for mothers and babies in the Philippines. With maternal health still a significant concern, the DOH is working towards reducing maternal deaths in the country from 144 per 100,000 live births to 111.

The department has laid out key strategies to achieve this goal, all of which aim to improve the accessibility and quality of maternal care across the nation:

  1. Strengthening Health Systems: Ensuring that essential maternal services like antenatal check-ups, safe deliveries, and postnatal support are accessible to every Filipino, especially those in underserved communities.

  2. Expanding the Capacity of the Health Workforce: The DOH is investing in the training of midwives and barangay health workers to improve care in the most remote areas, ensuring that no one is left behind.

  3. Enhancing Partnerships: The DOH is actively expanding its partnerships with both international and national development partners to further the reach and effectiveness of maternal health programs.

  4. Grounding Health Reforms in Communities: Through the PuroKalusugan initiative, the DOH ensures that health reforms are deeply rooted in the community, empowering local health workers and enhancing local access to healthcare services.

By focusing on these initiatives, the DOH is paving the way for a healthier, more hopeful future for mothers and babies, while ensuring that every life is treated with dignity and care.
