Dr. Mildred Vitangcol's Vision for Uplifting Education in the Philippines

In her April 3, 2025 interview with DZRH, Dr. Mildred Vitangcol, first nominee of the H.E.L.P. Pilipinas Party-list, spoke passionately about one of her main advocacies: Education. This particular segment from the interview highlights her call for greater support for Filipino students—especially those in far-flung communities who are often left behind due to lack of access to proper learning spaces and basic resources.

Dr. Vitangcol didn’t just speak in ideals. She referenced real-world work she has done in helping build classrooms and installing water systems in remote areas. According to her, these efforts are proof that meaningful change is possible—but scaling up requires more support, more resources, and, ultimately, a seat in Congress.

The challenges she pointed out were clear: many students still walk long distances—sometimes up to 30 kilometers—just to attend school. Others learn in overcrowded classrooms or lack access to clean drinking water. Dr. Vitangcol believes that these problems are fixable if the right policies are pushed forward, and if voices from the grassroots are heard where it matters most—inside the halls of Congress.

We were able to do all this with limited resources. Imagine how much more we can do if we’re given the right tools and authority,” she said, adding that with a larger platform, they can aim for 100%—a full commitment to uplifting education for every Filipino child.

This interview segment provides a glimpse into a kind of leadership that’s rooted in action and anchored by empathy. ULAT recognizes this approach and looks forward to more conversations that put community-centered solutions at the heart of national development.
